If You Were Listening To the Thunder

If you were listening to the rain of locomotives and the clang

of rocks along the coast when you passed by the agent,

his three miles of blank wall reaching

up to the edge of interest, there would be

a musical performance of blank spaces filled

with arvitrary differences presented to their

skeptical abilities as two feet traversing

sixteen ounces of cold water

A cup of tea was provided by distraction but

forgotten as you gathered the details

of rudeness and kept your thoughts in a small,

carved tractor where they could see

that the one was not among the others
