What is luvsaverb (it's not just poetry) open mic?
Luvsaverb (named after a friend and poet based in NC) was established in March 2007. The initial purpose was to provide a home for local poets and listeners to come and enjoy the spoken word. While carrying the motto: "Is it fair to have someone stifle their creative genius simply because others wouldn't find it appealing", Luvsaverb quickly became a comfort zone for many to share and express their thoughts.
As time went by and the venue grew, it became necessary to filter discussion in as part of the format for more crowd participation. That is when the introduction page to this website began to include: "it's not just poetry" in the title.
We have discussed such topics as interacial relationships, Jim Horn, destiny, racial slurs and other derogatory terms.
At our one year anniversary on March 15, 2008 we discussed a piece written by me entitled "Something Worse". The piece describes my failed marriage. The back and forth discussion was highlighted in an article by Jennifer Wilson of the Colorado Springs Gazette entitled Words that Show Instead of Hide. I am currently looking for a new venue to hold luvsaverb (it's not just poetry) open mic. In the meantime, please support some of the other poetry spots in the local area.
